Asphalt Routing and Sealing of Cracks

Routing and sealing cracks in your asphalt is a preventative measure to prolong the life of your asphalt parking lot / driveway.

Things you should know:

  • Contractor will price you based on the linear foot of actual work.

  • Routing and Sealing should be done at +5C or higher.

  • You want to make sure that the contractor will actually route out the crack before cleaning it, heat lancing it or applying the hot rubber.

  • If the contractor just blows out the crack and applies the hot rubber this is not an effective job and you have wasted your money and it is also difficult to repair in the future as any contractor attempting to correct this (Blow and Go Job as the quick method is called.) will gum up their routing machine trying to remove the installed rubber.

  • Routing and sealing is for asphalt cracks up to ¼” wide, it is not as effective for cracks that exceed this width.

  • The pavement must be dry, no sprinklers the night before work is done or rain.
